PRO2FAKER — PROFiling FAKE news spreadeRs
A CDTI-backed project to build a tool that automatically tackles the problem of identifying fake news and helps pinpoint and map the communities of users who spread it.
The tool focuses on monitoring social media and the internet to detect disinformation early, trace its propagation routes and profile its main spreaders.
Key features
- News aggregation together with supporting evidence
- Identification of trusted communities and users for sharing information
- Assessment of credibility levels
- Countermeasures against social media manipulation
Events such as Brexit, the US elections, the Catalan referendum and the Qatar dispute are examples of mass disinformation that justify the need for tools like PRO2FAKER. One notorious case: a fake tweet about Barack Obama in 2013 wiped $130 billion off the stock market.
Project funded by CDTI with European Union funds.
